Lessines is a city and municipality in Wallonia, a region in Belgium. It is located in the province of Hainaut. In 2014, about 18,637 people lived there. The total area of Lessines is about 72.29 square kilometers (27.91 sq mi). This means there are about 247 people living in each square kilometer.
The municipality of Lessines includes several smaller areas called districts. These districts are Bois-de-Lessines, Deux-Acren, Ghoy, Lessines itself, Ogy, Ollignies, Papignies, and Wannebecq.
Lessines is part of a region known as Picardy Wallonia. It is most famous for being the hometown of René Magritte. He was a very well-known Surrealist painter who lived from 1898 to 1967.

Lessines has a long history, like many towns in Belgium. Over the years, its postal services have changed.
