Lewisburg is a small community in Indiana. It's located in Miami Township, which is part of Cass County. When we say it's an "unincorporated community," it means that people live there, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.
History
Lewisburg got its start in 1835. It began to grow because the Wabash and Erie Canal was being built through that area. Canals were like man-made rivers that helped boats move goods and people.
The community was named after its founder, a person named Lewis Bowyer (sometimes spelled Boyer).
A post office was opened in Lewisburg in 1835. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, finally closing in 1868.
