Li Fan is a talented computer scientist and a top leader in technology. She is currently the chief technology officer (CTO) at a company called Circle. Before this, she worked at many well-known companies like Lime, Pinterest, Google, and Baidu. She is especially good at computer vision, which helps computers "see" and understand images.

Li Fan's Early Life and Education

When Li Fan was a child, she was very interested in art. However, her family encouraged her to focus on math. She decided to study computer science at Fudan University in China. She earned her first degree, a bachelor's degree, in 1996.

After that, she moved to the United States to continue her studies. She went to the University of Wisconsin–Madison for her advanced degrees. There, she worked on ways to make web caching work better for many users. This means making websites load faster for lots of people at once. She also studied how to make web pages load before you even click on them, especially for slower internet connections.

Her Amazing Career Journey

Li Fan started her career as a software engineer at Cisco Systems. This was her first big step in the tech world.

Working at Google and Baidu

In 2002, Li Fan joined Google, one of the biggest tech companies. She helped manage the systems that deal with online ads and how websites are ranked in search results. This is called page ranking.

Later, in 2012, she became a Vice President of Engineering at Baidu. Baidu is China's largest search engine. At Baidu, she started a special team that worked with data from different parts of the company. She was in charge of designing products for Baidu's search engine. She led a huge team of 1,000 people. Her work involved big data analytics, which means looking at very large sets of information to find patterns.

In 2014, she returned to Google. This time, she became the Head of Image Search. She was responsible for how people search for and find images online.

Leading Engineering at Pinterest

In 2016, Li Fan moved to Pinterest. She became the Head of Engineering there. Pinterest is a website where people can find and save ideas through images. She built a team focused on artificial intelligence (AI). This team worked on visual machine perception, which helps computers understand what's in pictures. She led about 400 engineers. Together, they improved Pinterest's discovery engine, which helps users find new and interesting things.

Joining Lime and Circle

In 2018, Li Fan joined LimeBike, a company known for its scooters and bikes. Her work at Lime showed her importance in the tech industry. Because of her achievements, she was named one of the most important engineers in the world by Business Insider. She was also recognized as one of the most creative people by Fast Company.

In 2021, Li Fan became the CTO at Circle. As CTO, she leads all the technology and engineering efforts for the company.
