About Liam Finn
His Family Life
Liam Finn's father, Neil Finn, wrote a song called "Our Day" about Liam before he was even born. This song appeared on the 1983 Split Enz album Conflicting Emotions.
Liam Finn married his long-time partner, Janina Percival, in June 2015. They have two sons together.
His Musical Journey
Liam Finn started his music career by helping to create the band Betchadupa. He performed with them from 1997 to 2006. During that time, the band released several albums and EPs between 2000 and 2004.
Liam also has a successful solo career. He is a multi-instrumentalist, meaning he can play many instruments. He plays drums, keyboards, and guitar, and sings over special loop tracks. He often creates songs right on stage or during live online shows.
Since 2020, Liam Finn has been recording and touring with Crowded House. As of 2024, both he and his brother Elroy Finn are official members of the band. They perform alongside their father, Neil Finn, and have toured in the UK, Ireland, Europe, USA, Australia, and New Zealand.
Live Performances

In 2008 and 2009, Liam Finn was the opening act for Eddie Vedder's solo tour across America. Finn also led his own first tour in North America. He then joined The Black Keys on their tour in the UK and Europe in November 2008.
At the Dutch Crossing Border Festival, he met an instrument maker named Yuri Landman. Liam borrowed a special drum guitar from him and used it on stage. Later, Landman created a new instrument just for Liam. It was a 24-string electric instrument called the Tafelberg, which Liam used in his live shows.
In April 2008, Finn played several solo concerts in Ireland. He had special guest appearances from vocalist Eliza Jane Barnes, who is the daughter of Australian musician Jimmy Barnes.
Liam Finn performed at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 14 March 2009. This was for Sound Relief, a big rock music concert held in multiple places. The concert helped raise money for the victims of the February 2009 Victorian bushfires. All the money from the Melbourne concert went to the Red Cross for bushfire relief. Many other artists performed with Finn in Melbourne, including Kings of Leon, Jet, and Midnight Oil.
In August 2009, Finn performed with a new band called BARB. They went on a small tour in New Zealand. The band included Connan Hosford, James Milne, Eliza Jane Barnes, and others. Their album was recorded in Auckland and released on 24 August 2010.
In January 2014, Finn toured New Zealand again, which was his first tour there since 2011. This time, he had a new backing band called The Salty Women. This band included many people he had worked with before, like James Milne, Eliza Jane Barnes, and his brother Elroy Finn.
Working with Neil Finn and Crowded House
On 29 November 2009, Liam Finn and his father sang together at Christchurch's AMI Stadium. They performed "Better Be Home Soon" and the classic Split Enz song "I Got You". Other artists like Pearl Jam and Ben Harper also joined them.
On 24 August 2018, Liam released the album Lightsleeper with his father.
In 2021, he was a main member of Crowded House for their album Dreamers Are Waiting. This album features several songs that Liam and Neil Finn wrote together. One song, "Goodnight Everyone," was written by Liam alone. Liam also contributed to Crowded House's 2024 album, Gravity Stairs.
