Liam Genockey (born August 12, 1948) is a talented Irish musician. He is best known as the drummer for the famous British folk rock band Steeleye Span.

Liam Genockey's Musical Journey
Liam Genockey was born in Dublin, Ireland. In the 1960s, he lived in Plymouth, England. There, he started playing drums in local bands. In the early 1970s, he joined a rock band called Adolphus Rebirth.
Early Bands and Styles
Liam was one of the first members of Zzebra. This band played a mix of jazz, fusion, and Afro-rock music in the early 1970s. Later, he and another band member, John McCoy, joined the band Gillan.
After Gillan, Liam worked with a musician named Trevor Watts. Trevor Watts formed a group called Amalgam in 1976. Their music explored different styles, including free jazz and folk-rock. Liam also played with Trevor Watts' 10-piece Moiré Music Ensemble. In this group, he met Peter Knight, who was also an early member of Steeleye Span.
Joining Steeleye Span
Liam Genockey first joined Steeleye Span in 1989. He recorded two studio albums with them: Tempted and Tried and Time. He also played on two live albums.
He took a break from the band between 1997 and 2001. But he returned in 2001 to record Present – The Very Best of Steeleye Span. Liam has been with Steeleye Span ever since. He also continues to play drums for Paul Brady in live shows and on albums.
In January 2003, Liam was part of a special TV show on BBC Four. It was called Free Will and Testament and featured performances by musician Robert Wyatt.
Liam is easy to spot because of his long, braided beard! He lives in Hastings in East Sussex, England.

Liam Genockey has played drums on many albums throughout his career. He has worked with a wide range of artists and bands. These include John Martyn, Gerry Rafferty, Kevin Ayers, and Bonnie Tyler. He has also recorded several albums with Annie Whitehead and Paul Brady.
Of course, he has played on many albums with Steeleye Span. Some of these include Tonight's the Night...Live, Time, Present – The Very Best of Steeleye Span, and Wintersmith. His drumming has helped create the unique sound of these bands and artists.
