The Liberty Bell Memorial Museum is a special place in Melbourne, Florida. It's located in Wells Park, right next to the Melbourne Military Memorial Park. You can visit the museum for free! It has two main parts: the Rotunda of American History and Freedom Hall.

The Museum's Story

The Liberty Bell Memorial Museum was started by Honor America Inc. This is a non-profit group that cares about American history and heritage. The museum opened its doors in 1985.

From Water Tank to Museum

The museum building itself has an interesting past. It used to be a large concrete tank for storing ground water. It was also the pump house for Melbourne's original water system. Architect Joe Vislay designed these structures. Robert Stitzel was the contractor who built them.

Growing and Winning Awards

In 2005, the museum grew bigger. They added a new section called the Freedom Hall annex. This gave them more space for exhibits. In 2013, the museum won a special award. The Marine Corps Historical Foundation gave them the Colonel John H. Magruder III Award. This award recognized how well the museum showed the history of the United States Marine Corps.

What You Can Explore

The museum is divided into two main areas, each with exciting exhibits.

The Rotunda of American History

The Rotunda is filled with exhibits about American history. You can see a timeline that shows important events in the nation's past. There are also many patriotic items and historic artifacts on display. You can learn about Florida's unique history too.

The Liberty Bell Replica

A highlight of the Rotunda is a full-size copy of the famous Liberty Bell. This replica bell was made by the same company that cast the original. That company is called Whitechapel Bell Foundry. The original bell is in Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall. Local schoolchildren helped raise money to buy this replica bell. They did this during the United States Bicentennial Celebration. This event marked 200 years since America became a country.

Freedom Hall Exhibits

Freedom Hall focuses on the United States Armed Forces. Here, you'll find military items and artifacts from each branch of the U.S. military. These branches include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. The hall also has educational displays about major wars and conflicts. These exhibits explain when the United States was involved in these important historical events.
