Exploring Nearby Islands
Lido Key is surrounded by other interesting islands. To its north, you'll find Longboat Key. If you look to the east, you'll see Bird Key and St. Armands Key. And heading south from Lido Key will bring you to Siesta Key. Each of these islands has its own unique charm!
Discovering Lido Key's Beaches and Parks
Lido Key is famous for its many sandy beaches. These beautiful beaches face the Gulf of Mexico, offering amazing views and perfect spots for swimming. There's also a special place called "South Lido Park." This park has its own beach and a fun woodland trail where you can explore nature.
The island is quite developed. You'll find many fancy hotels and beach houses here. During certain times of the year, there's a lively nightlife scene too. While Lido Key Beach might not be as well-known as Siesta Key Beach, many people find it more peaceful. Tourists from all over the world come here to relax. Sometimes, parts of the beach are even booked for weddings or other private parties.
A Look at Lido Key's Past
Lido Key has a cool history! Back in 1926, cars were first allowed on the island. That same year, the Lido Beach Casino opened its doors. Famous people like John Ringling, Samuel Gumpertz, and Owen Burns helped build a pavilion, a dock, and bathhouses. These were located just south of where the Lido Beach park is today.
However, by the 1950s, the casino started to get old and wasn't managed well. It was eventually taken down in 1969. But don't worry, a new, modern version was built and opened by 1970!
