The Liechtenstein national ice hockey team (also known as the Liechtensteinische Eishockeynationalmannschaft in German) is the official men's ice hockey team for the small country of Liechtenstein. This team is managed by the Liechtenstein Ice Hockey Federation. Since 2001, they have been a special member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), which is the main group for ice hockey around the world. Even though they are a national team, Liechtenstein doesn't currently take part in the main Ice Hockey World Championships.

The Team's Journey in Ice Hockey
Liechtenstein joined the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in 2001. This made them an "associate member," meaning they could be part of the global ice hockey family. Interestingly, there are no ice rinks in Liechtenstein itself!
First Games and Reactivation
The national team played its very first international game in 2003. It was a friendly game against Luxembourg, which they lost 7–1. They played Luxembourg again in 2007, losing 4–2.
In the summer of 2021, the team was successfully restarted. This was a big step for ice hockey in Liechtenstein!
Success in the IIHF Development Cup
Because the team was reactivated, Liechtenstein got to play in the IIHF Development Cup for the first time in May 2022. This tournament is held in Füssen, Germany. It's a special competition for national teams that don't usually play in the main IIHF World Championships.
Liechtenstein did very well in their first Development Cup! They won against Ireland (7–6), Portugal (3–0), Algeria (11–2), and Andorra (8–4). They only lost one game, against the tournament winners, Colombia (1–3). Overall, they finished in second place out of six teams.
Who Plays for the Team?
Most of the players on the Liechtenstein national ice hockey team play for the country's only adult club, EHC Vaduz-Schellenberg. Other players come from the only youth club. Some players are also Liechtenstein citizens who live and play ice hockey in other countries.
