Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut facts for kids
The Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut is an important leader in the state of Connecticut. This person is like the vice president for the state. They are the second-highest official in the government.
The Lieutenant Governor works closely with the Governor. If the Governor cannot do their job, the Lieutenant Governor steps in. This could happen if the Governor leaves office or becomes unable to serve. The Lieutenant Governor also leads the State Senate meetings. They help make sure laws are passed smoothly.
The Lieutenant Governor is elected by the people of Connecticut. They serve a four-year term. There is no limit to how many terms they can serve. The first Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut was Matthew Griswold in 1776. The current Lieutenant Governor is Susan Bysiewicz, who started her term on January 9, 2019.
