Lim Kim's Early Life and Music Journey
Lim Kim was born in South Korea. For high school, she decided to study overseas. She attended Leonia High School in New Jersey, USA.
In 2011, while still in high school, she heard about auditions for the South Korean singing competition Superstar K3. She asked a fellow Korean student, Do Dae-yoon, to audition with her. Do Dae-yoon was known as a great guitarist at their school.
They formed a band called Togeworl and successfully passed the auditions. They then flew to Seoul, South Korea, to compete in the show.
Competing on Superstar K3
Togeworl did very well in Superstar K3. They were chosen to be mentored by the famous singer-songwriter Yoon Jong-shin. The duo made it all the way to the finals, finishing in third place. The winners were Ulala Session, and Busker Busker came in second.
After the competition, Lim Kim and Do Dae-yoon stayed in South Korea. They continued to train in music and signed a contract with Mystic89. Togeworl released their first song in February 2012. It was part of the soundtrack for a TV show called The Romantic.
In March 2012, Lim Kim also appeared in a drama called Flower Band. She sang two songs for its soundtrack: "Two Months" and "Love U Like U." The second song was a duet with L from the boyband Infinite.
Starting a Solo Career
Togeworl had planned to officially debut as a group in 2013. However, Do Dae-yoon had to go back to the United States for high school reasons. Because of this, Lim Kim decided to start her solo career first. The plan was for them to reunite as a duo later.
In June 2013, Lim Kim released her first mini-album, A Voice. The main song from this album was "All Right." This song was very popular and reached number two on South Korea's music charts.
She then released a second mini-album in September called Her Voice. In November, she released her first full-length album, Goodbye 20.
Later Music and Awards
In April 2015, Lim Kim released her third mini-album, Simple Mind. One of the songs from this album, "Awoo," received a lot of praise. It was even named one of the best songs of 2015 by Spin magazine. Billboard magazine also ranked "Awoo" as one of the top K-Pop songs of 2015. They praised its unique sound and style.
