Lima is a small village located in Adams County, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of the Quincy, IL–MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 2020, about 148 people lived there.

History of Lima

Lima was first planned out in 1833. This was the same year that the first store opened in the village. Dr. Joseph Orr started the village. He named it Lima after Lima, Peru, because a friend from Peru suggested it.

In 1839, many members of the Latter-day Saints faith moved to Lima. They set up a local church group there in 1840. A meeting in 1841 had over 400 Latter-day Saints attending. However, these settlers left in 1845 due to serious community conflict. By 1955, Lima was the main community in Lima Township.
