Limache is a city and commune located in the Marga Marga Province of the Valparaíso Region in Chile. It's special because it has two main city areas: San Francisco de Limache and Limache Viejo. These two parts are separated by the Pelumpén stream. Limache is famous in Chile for growing lots of delicious tomatoes. It's also known for a big yearly celebration called the Virgin of the 40 Hours festival.

Where is Limache?
Limache is in the central part of Chile, known as the Zona Central. It covers an area of about 293.8 square kilometers. The city is located 43 kilometers (about 27 miles) east of the port city of Valparaíso. It is also 103 kilometers (about 64 miles) northwest of Santiago, which is the capital city of Chile.
Culture and Traditions
The Virgin of the 40 Hours Festival
One of the most important events in Limache is the Feast of the Virgin of the 40 Hours. This festival is called La Fiesta de la Virgen de las 40 Horas in Spanish. It starts 40 hours before the last Sunday in February.
During this time, special church services called masses are held every hour. The festival ends on Sunday with a large procession. During the procession, people walk through the city to honor the Virgin Mary.
People of Limache
Population and Living Areas
According to a census taken in 2002, Limache had 39,219 people living there. This included 19,269 men and 19,950 women. Most of the people, about 34,948 (89.1%), lived in urban areas, which are the city parts. The remaining 4,271 people (10.9%) lived in rural areas, which are the countryside parts.
Between 1992 and 2002, the population of Limache grew quite a bit. It increased by 12.6%, which means about 4,380 more people came to live in the commune.
How Limache is Managed
Local Government
Limache is like a local government area, also known as a township. It is managed by a municipal council. This council helps make decisions for the city. The leader of the council is called a mayor. The mayor is chosen by the people in an election every four years.
The current mayor of Limache is Daniel Morales Espíndola. He is an independent politician.
Political Representation
Limache is part of larger areas for national elections. In the Chamber of Deputies, which is like one part of Chile's parliament, Limache is represented by two people. These representatives are Marcelo Schilling and Arturo Squella.
For the Senate, which is the other part of the parliament, Limache is represented by Ignacio Walker Prieto and Lily Pérez San Martín. These people help make laws for the whole country.
