The Marga Marga Province (in Spanish: Provincia de Marga Marga) is a special area in central Chile. It is one of eight provinces in the Valparaíso Region. The main city and capital of the province is Quilpué.

This province was created in 2010. It was formed by taking two communes from the Valparaíso Province: Quilpué and Villa Alemana. It also took two communes from the Quillota Province: Limache and Olmué.

Geography of Marga Marga

The Marga Marga Province covers an area of about 1,159 square kilometers. This makes it the sixth largest province in the Valparaíso region. Only the Quillota and Isla de Pascua provinces are smaller.

Marga Marga is a landlocked province. This means it does not touch the ocean. To the north, it shares a border with the Quillota province. The Santiago Metropolitan region is to its east and south. To the west, it borders the Valparaíso province.

People and Cities

In 2002, the last time a national census was done, about 277,525 people lived in Marga Marga. This means there were about 239 people living in every square kilometer.

The biggest city in the province is Quilpué. It is also the capital. In 2002, Quilpué had 128,578 residents. Other important cities include Villa Alemana with 95,623 people, Limache with 39,219, and Olmué with 14,105.

How Marga Marga is Governed

Marga Marga is a province, which is a type of local government area. It has four smaller areas called communes. The city of Quilpué is the main city and the capital of the province. A person called a governor is in charge of running the province.
