Olmué is a charming town and commune in Chile. It is located in the Marga Marga Province, which is part of the Valparaíso Region. The commune covers an area of about 231.8 square kilometers. Olmué is located about 42.8 miles northwest of Santiago, Chile's capital, and 42 kilometers east northeast of Valparaíso.

About Olmué

Olmué is well-known for hosting the Olmué Festival. This is a popular folk music contest that takes place every year in the third week of January. It brings together musicians and fans from all over.

People and Population in Olmué

According to the 2002 census by the National Statistics Institute, Olmué had 14,105 residents. This included 7,139 men and 6,966 women. Most people, about 10,379 (73.6%), lived in urban areas. The remaining 3,726 (26.4%) lived in rural areas.

Between 1992 and 2002, Olmué's population grew by 11.9%, adding 1,502 people. The people from Olmué have special names: a man is called an Olmueíno, and a woman is called an Olmueína.

How Olmué is Governed

As a commune, Olmué is a local administrative division of Chile. It is managed by a group called the communal council. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen directly by the people every four years.

The current alcalde of Olmué is Macarena Santelices Cañas. She was elected in 2012 and is an Independent politician, supported by the UDI party.

In the Chamber of Deputies, which is like one part of the national parliament, Olmué is represented by Marcelo Schilling (PS) and Arturo Squella (UDI). They are part of the 12th electoral district, which also includes the towns of Limache, Villa Alemana, and Quilpué.

In the Senate, the other part of the national parliament, Olmué is represented by Ignacio Walker Prieto (PDC) and Lily Pérez San Martín (RN). They represent the 5th senatorial constituency, known as Valparaíso-Cordillera.
