Lindeman Lake, also known as Lake Lindeman, is a beautiful lake located in the far northwestern part of British Columbia, Canada. It's an important stop along the famous Chilkoot Trail, a historic route through the mountains.

Where is Lindeman Lake?

This lake sits just south of a larger lake called Bennett Lake. It's also found northeast of the highest point of the Chilkoot Pass. Water flows into Lindeman Lake from Lindeman Creek, which connects it to Bennett Lake.

Lindeman Lake and the Gold Rush

Lindeman Lake and Bennett Lake were very important during the Klondike Gold Rush. This was a time in the late 1890s when many people rushed to the Yukon in search of gold.

A Key Stop on the Chilkoot Trail

The Chilkoot Trail was a difficult path that gold seekers had to travel. After crossing the tough Chilkoot Pass, they would reach Lindeman Lake. This lake was a vital resting point.

Building Boats for the Journey

Once at Lindeman Lake, gold seekers needed to build boats. They used these boats to travel across the lakes and rivers towards the gold fields. Hundreds of boats were built on the shores of Lindeman Lake and Bennett Lake.

Tent Cities on the Shore

Because so many people stopped here, temporary towns grew up. These were often called "tent cities." One such town, named Lindeman, was located at the south end of Lindeman Lake. Another large camp, Bennett (also known as Bennett City), was at the south end of Bennett Lake. These places were bustling with activity as people prepared for the next part of their journey.
