The Line Islands are a group of islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. They are located very close to the equator, which is an imaginary line around the middle of the Earth.

Some of these islands belong to the United States. These are Jarvis Island, Kingman Reef, and Palmyra Island. The other islands are part of Kiribati, which is a country made of many islands in the Pacific. The islands belonging to Kiribati are Washington Island, Tabuaeran, Kiritimati, Malden Island, Starbuck Island, Caroline Island, Flint Island, and Vostok Island.

The Line Islands are sometimes divided into three smaller groups:

  • Southern Line Islands: These include Caroline, Vostok, and Flint islands.
  • Central Line Islands: This group has Jarvis Island, Malden Island, and Starbuck islands.
  • Northern Line Islands: These are Kingman Reef, Kiritimati, Palmyra, Washington, and Fanning Islands.
