Lior Raz (Hebrew: ליאור רז; born 24 November 1971) is a famous Israeli actor and writer. He is best known for playing Doron Kabilio in the exciting TV show Fauda. He also starred as Segev Azulai in the series Hit & Run.

Early Life and Military Service
Lior Raz grew up in Ma'ale Adumim, a city in Israel. His parents came to Israel from Iraq and Algeria. His father worked in special military units and later ran a plant nursery. His mother was a teacher. Lior learned to speak both Hebrew and Arabic when he was young. He spoke Arabic with his father, grandmother, and with Palestinian workers at his father's nursery.
After finishing high school at 18, Lior joined the Israel Defense Forces. He became a commando in a special undercover unit called Sayeret Duvdevan. This unit focuses on fighting terrorism. He continued to serve in the reserves for 20 years.
During his youth, Lior experienced a very sad event. When he was 19, his girlfriend, Iris Azulai, was tragically killed in Jerusalem. This event deeply affected him.
In 1993, after his military service, Lior moved to the United States. He worked as a bodyguard for famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He said it was a very exciting job because of his military background.
Lior Raz's Acting Journey
When Lior Raz returned to Israel at age 24, he decided to study acting. He attended the Nissan Nativ Drama School in Tel Aviv.
Early Acting Roles
In his early career, Lior performed in many plays, including Don Juan and Macbeth. He also started getting small parts in Israeli TV shows. For example, in 2004, he played a police investigator in Michaela. He also appeared in his first movie, Gotta Be Happy, in 2005. Later, he had roles in TV dramas like Srugim and Mesudarim. In 2011, he played a police commander in the film Policeman.
Breakthrough with Fauda
In 2014, Lior Raz teamed up with journalist Avi Issacharoff to create the TV series Fauda. This show is a political thriller about an undercover counter-terrorism unit. Lior also stars in it as the main character, Doron Kabilio.
Fauda quickly became very popular and won many awards. In 2016, it won six Israeli Academy Awards, including Best Drama Series. In 2017, The New York Times called Fauda the best international show of the year. In 2018, it won 11 more Israeli TV Academy Awards, including Best TV Drama and Best Actor for Lior Raz.
Other Projects and International Success
Lior Raz has continued to act in many other films and TV shows. In 2018, he appeared in the film Mary Magdalene. He also played Isser Harel, the head of Israel's intelligence agency (Mossad), in the movie Operation Finale.
In August 2021, a new series called Hit & Run was released on Netflix. Lior Raz starred in this show, which he also helped create with Avi Issacharoff and others.
Lior and Avi Issacharoff also co-founded their own production company, Faraway Road Productions. In 2022, this company was bought by Candle Media, but Lior and Avi are still involved.
In 2023, Lior and Avi created another spy drama called Ghosts of Beirut. This four-part series tells the true story of the search for Imad Mughniyeh. It was shown on Showtime.
Also in 2023, Lior began starring in A Body That Works, an Israeli drama about surrogacy. This show was very successful in Israel and was later released internationally on Netflix.
In 2024, Lior Raz starred in the Israeli film Soda, which is based on a true story about a Jewish partisan during World War II. He also appeared in the big Hollywood movie Gladiator II, playing the role of Viggo.
Personal Life
Lior Raz is married to Israeli actress Meital Berdah. They have four children together. The family lives in Ramat Hasharon, Israel.
