Exploring Lisa Brown's Books

Lisa Brown creates many different kinds of books. She often writes and draws the pictures for them herself.

Vampire Boy's Good Night

This is a picture book about a small vampire boy and a little witch. On a cold autumn night, they go out looking for "real children." It's a fun and spooky story for younger readers.

Picture the Dead

Picture the Dead is a ghost story with a special visual twist. Lisa Brown wrote this book with Adele Griffin. The story includes pictures that help you solve the mystery as you read. It's not a comic book or just a chapter book with a few drawings. Instead, the illustrations are a very important part of the whole story. They help you understand what's happening.

The pictures in the book are based on old photos called daguerreotypes and albumen prints. These were early types of photographs. The background designs in the book are also based on real Victorian patterns.

The story takes place in Brookline, Massachusetts during the American Civil War. A 17-year-old girl named Jennie Lovell is sad because her twin brother and fiancé have recently died. She becomes friends with a special photographer who helps her uncover sad family secrets.
