The award is named after February 21st, which is a very important day in Bangladesh's history. This day remembers the brave people who fought for the Bengali language to be recognized.

What is the Ekushey Padak?

The Ekushey Padak is like a special medal of honor. It celebrates individuals and sometimes organizations that have helped Bangladesh grow and shine. The award started in 1976. It's given out every year on February 20th, right before Ekushey February, which is also known as International Mother Language Day.
