List of State Register of Heritage Places in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale facts for kids

The State Register of Heritage Places is a special list of very important old buildings and sites in Western Australia. It's looked after by the Heritage Council of Western Australia. These places are protected because they tell us about the past.

As of 2024, there are 112 special places in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale area. Five of these are so important that they are on the State Register of Heritage Places.

Mill Manager's Residence

The Mill Manager's Residence was built in 1871 in Jarrahdale. It's a great example of an old Australian house style. This style mixes Victorian and Georgian architecture. It shows how homes were built a long time ago. The building was added to the State Register on May 14, 1999.

Serpentine General Store

The Serpentine General Store was built in 1926 in Serpentine. People also called it Middleton's Store or Middleton's Tearooms. It's a group of buildings with a unique, local style. It was added to the State Register on May 8, 2007.

Spencer's Cottage

Spencer's Cottage was built around 1860 in Serpentine. It's located near the Serpentine River. This cottage is also known as Carralong Cottage. It shows what homes were like when farming first started in this area. It was listed on October 11, 1994.

Turner Cottage

Turner Cottage was built in 1856 in Serpentine. It's a single-story farmhouse made of brick and wood shingles. It's also known as Bridge Farm. This old house gives us a peek into the past. It was added to the State Register on May 9, 1997.

Whitby Falls Hospital

The Whitby Falls Hostel was built in 1854 in Whitby. It's a group of old brick and stone farm buildings. It was once a hospital. This collection of buildings is very important to the area's history. It was listed on May 16, 2008.

Other Local Heritage Places

Besides the five places on the State Register, many other places in the Shire of Serpentine–Jarrahdale are also considered heritage-listed. This means they are important to the local history, even if they are not on the state-wide list.
