This article is about the biggest cities and towns in Mali, a country in West Africa. We'll explore how many people live in these places, based on a count from 2009.

The biggest city in Mali is its capital, Bamako. In 2009, about 1,809,106 people lived there. This means about 12.5% of all people in Mali live in Bamako!

Mali's Biggest Cities

This section lists all the places in Mali that had more than 50,000 people in the 2009 census. These places are called "communes." A commune can be a city (urban) or a large village area (rural).

The table also shows which larger areas, called "regions" and "cercles," each city belongs to. The numbers show how many people lived right in the city or town, not including nearby suburbs.

Bamako is special because it's the capital district. It's not part of a region or cercle like other cities. It's made up of six urban communes, which are numbered instead of named.
