While the governor is the official head of the state government, all important decisions are made by the elected government of Telangana. This government is led by the Chief Minister. So, the Chief Minister and their team hold the real power. The Constitution of India also gives the governor some special powers. For example, they can choose or remove ministers. They can also suggest that the central government take over the state's administration in special situations, which is called President's rule. The governor of Telangana lives in their official home, called the Raj Bhavan, in Hyderabad.
Telangana became a separate state on June 2, 2014. Before that, it was part of Andhra Pradesh. E. S. L. Narasimhan, who was the governor of Andhra Pradesh at the time, became the first governor of the new state. He continued to serve both states for a while. In 2019, Tamilisai Soundararajan became the new governor of Telangana. She was the first woman to hold this important position in the state. She served until March 2024. After she resigned, C. P. Radhakrishnan, who was the Governor of Jharkhand, temporarily took on the role for Telangana.
