Becoming a Governor
On January 19, 2007, Narasimhan was appointed as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. He officially took office on January 25. A governor is like the head of a state, representing the President of India. On December 27, 2009, he took on an extra role as the acting Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He took over after the previous governor, Narayan Dutt Tiwari, resigned. On January 23, 2010, he was officially appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He left his role in Chhattisgarh at that time.
Role in Telangana's Formation
As the process to create a separate Telangana state was moving forward, Governor Narasimhan played an important role. On October 23, 2013, he held several meetings with central leaders in New Delhi. He was called by the central government for discussions before the efforts to divide Andhra Pradesh became more intense.
Narasimhan met with important leaders like United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, and Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram. He first met with Chidambaram, who was part of a group working on how to form the Telangana state. During their meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, the governor likely discussed issues that might come up after the state was divided. He then met with the UPA chairperson and told her about the situation in the state. He also gave a report on the state division.

During a period of President's Rule in Andhra Pradesh from May 1, 2014, to June 1, 2014, he acted as the Governor of the undivided state. President's Rule means the central government takes direct control of a state.
On June 13, 2017, Narasimhan became the longest-serving Governor of Andhra Pradesh. He held this position for a longer time than Krishan Kant, who was a previous governor.
