List of lieutenant governors of Alberta facts for kids
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta is a very important person in the province. They represent the King or Queen of Canada, who is our head of state. Think of them as the King's personal representative right here in Alberta!
This special job started when Alberta officially became a province in 1905. But even before that, there were similar leaders for the larger area called the Northwest Territories, which included Alberta.
The Lieutenant Governor has several key roles:
- They make sure the government always runs smoothly.
- They give royal approval to new laws passed by the provincial government. This is called "Royal Assent."
- They open and close sessions of the Alberta Legislature.
- They also take part in many community events, celebrating achievements and honouring people.
