The president is the leader of the country of Guinea, a nation in West Africa. The president is both the head of state (the main representative of the country) and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
Guinea became an independent country on October 2, 1958, after the people voted to leave the French Community, which was led by France. Since then, Guinea has had several presidents. This article lists all the leaders who have held this important job.

How Long Can a President Serve?
A president's time in office is called a term. In Guinea, the constitution (the country's main set of rules) says a president can be elected for a five-year term. They can be elected a second time, but that's it. This is called a two-term limit.
However, this rule has been changed at different times in Guinea's history. For example, the limit was removed for President Lansana Conté in 2001 and for President Alpha Condé in 2020, allowing them to run for more terms.
Guinea's Presidents Through History
Over the years, Guinea's presidents have come from different political parties. Sometimes, the country has been led by the military. A military takeover of the government is called a coup d'état (often shortened to "coup").
Here is a guide to the political groups mentioned in the list:
- Democratic Party of Guinea – African Democratic Rally (PDG–RDA)
- Unity and Progress Party (PUP)
- Rally of the Guinean People (RPG)
- Military
