  • What it is: A bronze sculpture of a reclining (lying down) figure.
  • Where to find it: Right outside Hornsey Library on Haringey Park.
  • When it was made: 1964.
  • Who made it: T. B. Huxley-Jones.

The Spriggan Sculpture

The Spriggan sculpture
  • What it is: A sculpture called The Spriggan. A spriggan is a mythical creature from Cornish folklore, often seen as a guardian of ancient sites.
  • Where to find it: Along the Parkland Walk, which is a lovely nature trail built on an old railway line. It's near where the old Crouch End railway station used to be.
  • When it was made: 1993.
  • Who made it: Marilyn Collins.

Highgate is partly outside Haringey, but it has an important memorial within the borough.

Highgate School War Memorial

  • What it is: A war memorial at Highgate School. It's a Cross of Sacrifice, a common design for war memorials.
  • Where to find it: At Highgate School.
  • When it was made: 1921.
  • Who designed it: Reginald Blomfield.
  • Special note: This memorial is a Grade II listed building, meaning it's historically important and protected.

Muswell Hill's Tributes

Muswell Hill is home to artworks honoring a very important person.

Bust of Oliver Tambo

  • What it is: A bust (a sculpture of a head and shoulders) of Oliver Tambo.
  • Where to find it: In the O. R. Tambo Recreation Ground.
  • When it was made: 2007.
  • Who made it: Ian Walters.

Statue of Oliver Tambo

  • What it is: A full statue of Oliver Tambo.
  • Where to find it: Also in the O. R. Tambo Recreation Ground.
  • When it was made: 2019.
  • Why it's special: Oliver Tambo was a famous anti-apartheid leader from South Africa. He lived in Muswell Hill for almost 30 years while in exile. This park was renamed after him in 2021. His daughter, Thembi Tambo, was there when the statue was revealed.

  • What it is: A mosaic mural called Equality-Harmony.
  • Where to find it: On Tangmere House, part of the Broadwater Farm Estate.
  • When it was made: 1986–1987.
  • Who made it: Gülsün Erbil, who actually lived on the estate.
  • Why it's special: It was created after some difficult events in 1985, to bring a message of peace and unity. It's a Grade II listed artwork.
