List of royal consorts of Wessex facts for kids
The royal consorts of Wessex were the wives of the kings who ruled the Kingdom of Wessex. In Wessex, it was not common for a king's wife to be called a queen. However, Judith was crowned queen after she married King Æthelwulf.
Wessex was an Anglo-Saxon kingdom in the south of Great Britain. It existed from AD 519 until England became a single country in AD 927. This happened when Æthelstan united the different kingdoms. Æthelstan never married. After this time, there were no longer separate consorts for Wessex. Instead, the consorts were for the monarch of all of England.
