List of storms named Dolly facts for kids
The name Dolly has been given to thirteen different tropical cyclones around the world. A tropical cyclone is a powerful rotating storm system that forms over warm ocean waters. These storms are known by different names depending on where they form: they are called hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean and Northeast Pacific, typhoons in the Northwest Pacific, and cyclones in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.
Each time a storm is named Dolly, it's a unique event, but the name is reused after a certain number of years if the storm wasn't too destructive. If a storm causes a lot of damage or deaths, its name is usually retired and never used again to avoid confusion and out of respect for the victims.
