- Mount Ida Female College in Davenport, Iowa, built in 1856. This was one of the first four-story buildings. It later had a tall dome added, which might have made it as tall as the Old Capitol.
- Fort Madison, built in 1808. This was probably where the first two-story buildings in what would become Iowa were located.
