Kids Encyclopedia Facts

This article is about analog television stations in the Philippines. Analog TV is an older way of sending TV signals, like how radios send sound. In the Philippines, two main TV networks, GMA Network Inc. and TV5 Network, Inc., are very popular. People often know these stations by their channel numbers, like RPN 9 or GMA 7 in Manila.

The Philippines started turning off analog TV signals on February 28, 2017. They plan to finish this by the end of 2027. This means that soon, all TV will be digital, which gives a clearer picture and more channels! For now, all analog TV stations still use a system called NTSC.

How TV Frequencies Work

TV signals travel through the air using different radio waves, called frequencies. Think of it like different lanes on a highway for different cars. The government agency that manages these lanes for TV in the Philippines is called the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

There are two main types of frequencies used for analog TV:

  • VHF (Very High Frequency): These are used for channels 2 to 13.
  • UHF (Ultra High Frequency): These are used for channels 14 and higher.

These frequencies help make sure that different TV stations don't interfere with each other.
