Scientific classification |
The Litoria eurynastes is a type of frog that lives in Papua New Guinea. It looks a lot like the Northern dwarf tree frog (Litoria bicolor), but it is bigger.
What Does It Look Like?
Adult male Litoria eurynastes frogs are about 2.6 to 3.2 centimeters long. Female frogs are usually a little bit larger than the males.
Some of these frogs have small teeth in their upper jaws. These are called vomerine teeth. They also have some skin between their front toes, which is called webbing. Their back feet have even more webbing.
Colors and Patterns
There are five different groups of Litoria eurynastes frogs living in the wild. They don't all look exactly the same. Their skin can be bright green, yellow-green, or even brownish-green. Some frogs have cool gold or light green stripes running down their bodies. Each of their fingers has a special disc on it, which helps them grip surfaces.
Where Does Its Name Come From?
The name eurynastes comes from the Greek language. It means "wide-dwelling," which tells us that this frog lives in many different places.
