River mouth Butte Creek

Little Chico Creek is a cool stream in Butte County, California. It's called a perennial stream because it usually has water flowing in it all year round. This creek starts high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

It flows through the city of Chico. The creek forms the southern edge of the downtown area. As it moves further west, the creek sometimes dries up in the summer. This happens because its water soaks into the ground.

About Little Chico Creek

Little Chico Creek begins from a spring. This spring is located off Headwaters Road in a place called Forest Ranch, California. The creek then flows west.

Where Does Little Chico Creek Flow?

The creek flows into an area known as the Parrot Grant. This area is just south of Ord Ferry Road. It is also west of Seven Mile Lane. In this spot, the creek seems to disappear.

What Can You See Along the Creek?

You can spot Little Chico Creek in a few places in Chico. One spot is from Highway 99. This is just south of the Chester/Orland exit.

You can also see it from the Park Avenue bridge. This bridge is just south of downtown Chico. Another good viewing spot is where Dayton Road begins.

The Greenway Path

There is a special green area next to the creek. It's called a greenway. This greenway has a path that follows Humboldt Road.

The path lets you get to a footbridge. This bridge crosses over the creek. It leads into a neighborhood where people live. It's a nice place for a walk or bike ride!

Dead Horse Slough

Little Chico Creek has a smaller stream that flows into it. This smaller stream is called Dead Horse Slough. It is a tributary to Little Chico Creek.
