History of Little Forest Hills
How the Neighborhood Started
Little Forest Hills began to grow after White Rock Lake was finished in 1910. Most of its development happened in the 1930s. The homes built then were often made of wood. They were first used as fun lake houses or places for hunting. Back then, this area was considered far from the main city.
A Place for Artists
In the 1980s and 1990s, many artists moved to Little Forest Hills. They liked that the homes were affordable, meaning they didn't cost too much. They also loved being close to White Rock Lake. The neighborhood soon showed off the artists' creativity. You could see it in their colorful gardens and unique decorations.
Modern Changes in the Area
More recently, the neighborhood has seen some changes. This is called gentrification. It means that more people with good jobs and higher incomes have moved in. They often fix up and make the smaller, older homes bigger.

The schools in this neighborhood are part of the Dallas Independent School District. Children living here can attend Alex Sanger Elementary School. They also go to Alex Sanger Preparatory Middle School, W. H. Gaston Middle School, and Bryan Adams High School.
Little Forest Hills in Movies
In 2007, a movie called Subdivided: Isolation and Community in America was filmed here. It was a documentary about how cities spread out, known as urban sprawl. The movie was made by Dean Terry. It showed Little Forest Hills as a good example of how a neighborhood can grow well. The film did not like buildings being torn down or new, very planned communities. It was shown on KERA and got great reviews from the Dallas Observer newspaper.
