Casa Linda Estates, or simply Casa Linda, is a neighborhood in east Dallas, Texas, United States. It sits near the beautiful White Rock Lake and south of Garland Road (SH 78). This area is part of Dallas Council District 9.

The neighborhood is known for its large, tree-lined properties. Many homes are on half-acre lots or bigger. The streets are winding and pleasant. Residents enjoy being very close to popular spots. These include White Rock Lake, the Bath House Cultural Center, and the Dallas Arboretum. The Casa Linda Shopping Center is also nearby.

Discovering Casa Linda's Past

Casa Linda Estates has a long and interesting history. Before it became Casa Linda, the area had different names. It was once known as Ola and Reinhardt.

How Casa Linda Began

The city of Dallas officially took over Reinhardt in 1948. A large piece of land, about 640 acres, was bought in 1933. Carl Martin Brown and his wife, Ida May James Brown, bought this land. They first used it for farming. Their plan was to eventually build homes and businesses there.

Tracing the Land's Journey

The land's story goes back even further. It was first given to Richardson Scurry. He received it for his brave actions in the Battle of San Jacinto. After he passed away, the land was sold many times. Over 100 years, it changed owners until the Brown family bought it.

Developing a New Neighborhood

The Brown family turned their farm into Casa Linda Estates. They also built a shopping center called Casa Linda Plaza. As they developed the area, they added important services. These included new streets, electricity, and city water.

The first building finished after World War II was the Casa Linda Theatre. The neighborhood was carefully planned. Rules were set in 1939 to help keep it a high-quality place to live.

Spanish Influence and Architecture

The homes in Casa Linda Estates show different building styles. Some homes feature Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture. This style was inspired by Howard D. Brown's love for the Spanish language. You'll also notice many streets in the area have Spanish names.

The neighborhood is famous for its many trees and well-kept yards. Some older homes even have extra living spaces. These were once for servants but can now be used for guests or rentals.

Casa Linda Today

The Brown family owned the shopping center for many years. Howard D. Brown decided to sell it in 1978. His daughter, Beverly Ann Brown Heart, continued building homes in the area. She worked on new homes until the mid-1980s.

Casa Linda Plaza has continued to be a busy place. It has a mix of both new and old stores and restaurants. For example, Chili's restaurant is there. El Fenix Restaurant has been a tenant since the 1950s. Even today, Casa Linda is a lively neighborhood. It has a great mix of long-standing and newer businesses.
