The Little River, sometimes called the Little Shuswap River, is a short but important river in British Columbia, Canada. It flows for about 3.6 kilometers (2.2 miles). This river is part of the beautiful Shuswap Country region.

The River's Journey

The Little River plays a key role in connecting two large lakes. It starts its journey from Shuswap Lake. This is a big lake known for its clear waters. The river begins just below where the Adams River flows into Shuswap Lake.

Connecting the Lakes

After leaving Shuswap Lake, the Little River flows into Little Shuswap Lake. This smaller lake is actually the beginning of the South Thompson River. Think of the Little River as a natural link. It helps water move from one large body of water to another.

The Little River is very similar to the South Thompson River itself. This is because no other major streams flow into Little Shuswap Lake. So, the water from the Little River directly becomes the South Thompson River.

Crossing the River

An important bridge crosses the Little River. It is called the Squilax Bridge. This bridge helps people travel easily. It connects the Trans-Canada Highway to different communities. These communities are located around Adams Lake and on the north side of Shuswap Lake.

Other Streams

The Little River has one small stream that flows into it. This stream is called Chum Creek. Chum Creek joins the Little River about 0.4 kilometers (0.25 miles) before the Little River reaches Little Shuswap Lake.
