About the River's Path

- To the east: The Opawica River.
- To the south: Opawica Lake and the Bachelor River.
- To the west: Lake Waswanipi and the Waswanipi River.
The Little Waswanipi River starts from a forested creek. This starting point is about 11.1 kilometres (6.9 mi) south of the main Waswanipi River. It is also about 9.0 kilometres (5.6 mi) west of Opawica Lake.
The river flows for about 19.9 kilometres (12.4 mi). As it flows, it crosses Quebec route 113. This road connects the villages of Desmaraisville, Quebec and Waswanipi.
Finally, the Little Waswanipi River joins the Opawica River. This meeting point is very close to where the Opawica River itself joins the Chibougamau River. The Chibougamau River is the beginning of the larger Waswanipi River.River's Name
The name Petite rivière Waswanipi was officially recognized on November 1, 1988. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is in charge of place names in Quebec.
