Liu Ping-wei (born November 30, 1952 – died April 21, 2020) was an important politician from Taiwan. He was known for serving in the Taiwan Provincial Assembly for many years, from 1981 to 1998. He also became the Speaker of the provincial assembly. Later, he served one term in the Legislative Yuan, which is like Taiwan's national parliament.
Early Life and Education
Liu Ping-wei was born in 1952. He was the oldest son of Liu Shun-tien, who was a real estate investor and the mayor of Banqiao. Liu Ping-wei studied at the Hsing Wu School of Business.
His family owned a business group called Hai Shan Group. Liu Ping-wei had three younger brothers: Ping-huang, Ping-hua, and Ping-chung. His brother, Ping-hua, also became a member of the Legislative Yuan.

Liu Ping-wei had a long and successful career in politics. He was a member of the Taiwan Provincial Assembly for four terms. This means he was elected four times, serving from 1981 until 1999.
During his time in the provincial assembly, he held important leadership roles. In his third term, he was the deputy speaker. Then, in his final term, he was elected to be the Speaker of the assembly.
After his time in the provincial assembly, Liu Ping-wei was elected to the Legislative Yuan in 1998. He served there until 2002. The Legislative Yuan is where national laws are made in Taiwan.
In 2000, Liu Ping-wei started two groups: the New Taiwan Policy Research Foundation and the New Taiwan Political Alliance. These groups helped bring together politicians and supporters to discuss important policies. He was a member of the Kuomintang political party.
Later Life and Passing
Liu Ping-wei passed away on April 21, 2020, at the age of 67. He had been receiving treatment for oral cancer at Banqiao Chunghsing Hospital.
