Ljubomir "Ljuba" Popović (born October 14, 1934 – died August 12, 2016) was a famous Serbian painter. He was known for his unique style called surrealism. Surrealism is an art movement where artists try to show dreams, imagination, and things that seem impossible, often in a very detailed way. Ljuba Popović created paintings that looked like they came from a dream world.

About Ljuba Popović
Early Life and Art School
Ljuba Popović was born in Tuzla, a city in Bosnia. When he was young, he moved to Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. There, he studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts. This is where he learned many important skills for painting.
Discovering Surrealism
In 1959, Ljuba Popović visited Paris, France. He saw an amazing art show there that featured surrealist art. This exhibition really impressed him and changed how he thought about painting. He loved how surrealist artists used their imagination to create strange and wonderful scenes.
Starting the Mediala Movement
In 1960, Ljuba Popović helped start an art group called "Mediala". This group wanted to show feelings like desire and fear through their art. They believed art could explore deep thoughts and emotions.
Life and Work in Paris
In 1963, Popović moved to Paris. He quickly became popular with French art dealers and other surrealist artists. He worked with Thessa Herold's gallery, which supported his art. In Paris, he painted many amazing and imaginative scenes. His paintings often showed strange creatures and dreamlike places. Some people said his work reminded them of the famous surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. Popović was also inspired by older art styles, like Renaissance and Baroque painting.
Featured in a Film
Ljuba Popović's art was so interesting that a short documentary film was made about him. The film was called L'amour monstre de tous les temps (which means "The Monster Love of All Time") and was made in 1978 by Walerian Borowczyk.
Later Years
Ljuba Popović lived in Paris for most of his life, but he often visited Serbia. In July 2016, while he was on vacation in Greece, he became ill. He was taken to a hospital in Belgrade, Serbia. Ljuba Popović passed away there on August 12, 2016. His art continues to inspire people around the world.
