Discovering Llangorse Mountain

Llangorse Mountain is more than just a tall peak. It's actually a special kind of volcanic landform. It's part of a huge area known as the Northern Cordilleran Volcanic Province. This big area has many volcanic features.

What Makes This Mountain Unique?

Llangorse Mountain is super interesting because it's the only place in this entire volcanic region where you can find something called megacrysts made of kaersutite. Megacrysts are very large crystals. Kaersutite is a specific type of mineral. Finding these big crystals here makes Llangorse Mountain quite special for scientists.

How Llangorse Mountain Got Its Name

The name Llangorse Mountain was officially given on October 7, 1954. It was named because it's close to Llangorse Lake in British Columbia.

That Canadian lake, in turn, got its name from a much older lake. This older lake is Llangorse Lake in South Wales, which is part of the United Kingdom. The lake in Wales is the biggest lake there. It's named after a nearby village called Llangors. So, the name of this Canadian mountain has a long history, connecting it all the way back to a small village in Wales!
