Llewellyn Garrish Estes (born December 27, 1843, died February 21, 1905) was an American soldier. He fought bravely in the American Civil War. Estes received the country's highest award for courage in battle, the Medal of Honor. He earned this honor for his actions at Flint River in Georgia. This happened on August 30, 1864. He was given the award on August 29, 1894.

Llewellyn Garrish Estes was born in Oldtown, Maine. His birthday was December 27, 1843. In October 1861, he joined the 1st Maine Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. He started as a First Sergeant.
Rising Through the Ranks
Estes quickly showed his skills. In March 1862, he became a First Lieutenant. He was promoted to Captain in August 1863. The next month, he became an assistant adjutant general. This role meant he helped with important military paperwork and planning.
By the time Estes left the army in September 1865, he was a Major. He also received a special promotion called a "brevet" promotion. This made him a Brigadier General for his brave service.
Final Resting Place
Llewellyn Garrish Estes passed away on February 21, 1905. His remains are buried at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. This cemetery is a special place where many American heroes are laid to rest.
