Biography
Lloyd Cafe Cadena was born on September 23, 1993, in Parañaque, Philippines. He studied financial management at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Before that, he attended Olivarez College.
Lloyd had two older sisters and one older brother. His parents, Saturnino Cadena and Lorita Cafe, worked abroad in the United Arab Emirates. When Lloyd became famous, he was able to bring his mother back home to the Philippines.
Career
Vlogging
Lloyd Cadena started his main YouTube channel in 2011. He began by uploading funny parody videos. He also created his famous "LC Learns" series, which shared life lessons in a humorous way. His first video on his main channel was a parody of Shakira's song "Rabiosa" in June 2011.
Lloyd became very popular on YouTube by sharing his travels and daily adventures. His videos included cooking, unboxing new items, challenge videos, and pranks. Many of his videos received millions of views. He was one of the first and most important YouTube vloggers in the Philippines.
Publishing
Lloyd Cadena also became an author. He wanted to encourage young people to read more. In 2013, he joined a group of authors called The Bookmarks. They made book signing events fun for young readers.
He wrote several books, including Eng Serep Megwele (2014), Hopia (2015), Mahal Ko Na Siya...Rak Na Itu!!! (2016), and Ex-Rated (2017).
Broadcasting
Besides being a YouTuber, Lloyd also worked as a radio DJ. In 2014, he hosted a show called Gabi Ng Hanash on 93.9 iFM. Later, in 2017, he moved to 90.7 Love Radio. There, he hosted a show called "KarLloyd" with another vlogger and DJ, Kara Karinyosa.
Death
On September 1, 2020, Lloyd Cadena was taken to the hospital because he had a high fever and a cough. He later tested positive for COVID-19. Sadly, he passed away three days later, on September 4, due to a cardiac arrest. He was cremated after his death.
Many of his friends, fellow vloggers, and celebrities shared their sadness and sent their thoughts to his family. This included American pop singer Mariah Carey, who Lloyd was a big fan of. On October 11, 2020, Lloyd was honored during YouTube FanFest 2020 in the Philippines, along with another YouTuber, Emman Nimedez, who had also passed away.
Philanthropy and legacy
Lloyd Cadena was known for his kindness and for helping others. He often used his platform to give to charity. In August 2020, he gave tablets to students from his old school, La Huerta Elementary, to help them with online learning. He had also given them food, school supplies, and toys in the past.
He also gave cash to random people on the streets of Baguio. Lloyd encouraged everyone to donate to organizations helping areas in Mindanao that were hit by an earthquake in 2019. In 2020, during the Taal Volcano eruption, he gave relief packs to communities. He also helped COVID-19 frontliners by donating personal protective equipment to a hospital in Parañaque.
