Loch Loyal is a beautiful freshwater lake in Scotland. You can find it in the northern Scottish Highlands, close to a town called Lairg. It's a type of lake known as a ribbon lake, which means it's long and narrow.

Loch Loyal is quite a large body of water. It stretches for about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) in length. The loch is about half a mile (0.8 kilometers) wide. The deepest part of Loch Loyal goes down about 200 feet (61 meters).
Where is Loch Loyal?
This amazing loch is surrounded by tall mountains. Some of these mountains include Beinn Stumanadh, Ben Hiel, and Cnoc nan Cuilean. The small town of Tongue is also nearby. Loch Loyal is located in an area called Sutherland in the Highland region of Scotland.
How Water Flows
Water flows into Loch Loyal from a stream called Lon Achadh na h-Aibhne. From Loch Loyal, the water then flows north. It travels through two other smaller lochs, Loch Craggie and Loch Slaim. Finally, all this water joins the River Borgie. This river eventually flows into the sea.

Loch Loyal is a special place for many animals. It provides a safe home and nesting spots for different kinds of birds.
Birds of Loch Loyal
In 2002, about one thousand greylag geese lived here. These are large, common geese found in Europe. The loch is also an important nesting site for black-throated divers. These are rare and beautiful water birds. They are known for their striking black throats and graceful swimming. Protecting places like Loch Loyal helps these special birds survive.
