Locust, Missouri facts for kids
Locust is a small place in Ozark County, Missouri. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Locust is located near a pretty stream called South Fork Bratten Spring Creek. It's also about a mile east of a part of Bull Shoals Lake, which is a big lake popular for fishing and boating. You can get to Locust by taking a county road south from U.S. Route 160, which is southwest of a town called Gainesville.
A Look Back at Locust
Locust had its own post office for many years. This post office first opened in 1911. It helped people send and receive mail in the area. The post office stayed open for almost 30 years, finally closing its doors in 1940.
The community got its name from nature. There was a group of locust trees growing near where the community first started. These trees are known for their strong wood and pretty white flowers.
