Logical Journey of the Zoombinis is a fun and educational puzzle video game. It was first made by Broderbund. Later, The Learning Company created a newer version. This game is the very first one in the popular Zoombinis game series. In the remake, the game is also known as Zoombinis Logical Journey.
About the Game: Zoombinis
The game features small, blue creatures called Zoombinis. They have different looks, like various eyes, noses, hair, and feet. These Zoombinis used to live happily on an island called Zoombini Isle. But then, some tricky neighbors called the Bloats captured them.
Your job is to help the Zoombinis find a new home. To do this, you must solve many logic puzzles. The puzzles often use the unique features of the Zoombinis as part of the solution. For example, in a puzzle called 'Allergic Cliffs', you choose between two bridges. Each bridge only lets Zoombinis with specific features pass. There are 625 different ways Zoombinis can look. The game lets you create up to two Zoombinis (twins) for each look. This means there are 1,250 possible Zoombinis in total. To win the game, you need to save 625 of them.
How Zoombinis Travel
Zoombinis travel in groups, with up to 16 Zoombinis in each group. They go through a series of puzzles. There are 12 puzzles in the game. These puzzles are divided into four sections, with three puzzles in each section.
To reach their new home, called 'Zoombiniton' (or 'Zoombiniville' in the US), the Zoombinis must complete a path of nine puzzles. The first and last parts of the journey are required for all Zoombinis. For the middle part, you can choose to take either a northern or a southern path. Between each part of the journey, there is a campsite. Here, you can store Zoombinis and pick them up later.
Increasing the Challenge
When you successfully guide a full group of 16 Zoombinis through a part of the journey for the first time, a building is built at Zoombiniton/Zoombiniville. This celebrates your success! If you manage to get three groups of 16 Zoombinis through a section, that section becomes harder for future trips. This happens unless it's already at the hardest level.
There are four difficulty levels:
- 'Not So Easy' (green)
- 'Oh So Hard' (purple)
- 'Very Hard' (yellow)
- 'Very Very Hard' (red) - This is the maximum difficulty.
Once a section becomes harder, you cannot change it back to an easier level.
