Lokma

Lokma are yummy, bite-sized pastries. They are made from a special dough that rises, then it's deep-fried until golden. After frying, these sweet treats are soaked in a delicious syrup or honey. Sometimes, they are sprinkled with cinnamon or other tasty toppings. Lokma are popular in many countries, especially around the Mediterranean and Middle East.

A Sweet History

Lokma has a very long and interesting history! Its original name was Luqmat al-Qadi, which means "the judge's morsels." This sweet treat was first made a long, long time ago, in the 13th century. It came from the Abbasid Caliphate, which was a powerful empire in the Middle East during the medieval period.

People loved Lokma so much that it was written about in many old cookbooks from that time. You can even find it mentioned in the famous collection of stories called One Thousand and One Nights. It appears in the story about The Porter and the Three Ladies of Baghdad, showing how popular it was even then!
