Lolly Vegas: Early Life and Music

Lolly Vegas was born in Coalinga, California. He and his younger brother Pat loved playing music together. They performed in bands around the Fresno area. In 1960, they moved to Los Angeles to chase their dreams of becoming professional musicians. To make their name easier to remember, they shortened their last name to Vegas.

In their early days, Lolly and Pat performed as The Vegas Brothers. Later, they formed the band Redbone. This group became very famous for their 1974 hit song, "Come and Get Your Love".

Lolly's Musical Journey

Lolly and his brother Pat were key members of a band called The Avantis. This group also included drummer Mike Kowalski and guitarist Danny Hamilton. The Avantis even got to open shows for the legendary band, The Beach Boys. In 1963, The Avantis had a small hit song called "Wax 'Em Down." This song was popular in Canada and even appeared on their music charts.

Lolly Vegas also helped write songs for other artists. For example, he co-wrote "Sick Chick" for Rick Lancelot & The Peppermint Sticks in 1964. He also wrote "Love Will Make You Crawl" for Cliff Wagner in 1966.

In 1969, Lolly and Pat formed the band Redbone. Lolly was the lead singer for this group. Other members included rhythm guitarist Tony Bellamy and drummer Pete DePoe.
