Patrick Vasquez-Vegas, known as Pat Vegas, is a talented Native American musician. He was born on March 17, 1941. Pat is a singer, writer, and producer. He is best known for his work with the band Redbone.

Redbone had many popular songs. These include "Come and Get Your Love" and "The Witch Queen of New Orleans". Pat Vegas and his brother Lolly played in several music groups. Redbone was special because they were one of the first rock bands with Native American members to have a number one song. Their music was even shown in the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.

Pat Vegas: Early Life and Music Beginnings

Pat Vegas was born in Coalinga, California. His original name was Patrick Vasquez-Vegas. Both Pat and his brother, Candido "Lolly" Vasquez-Vegas, loved music. They played in local bands when they were younger.

In 1960, the brothers moved to Los Angeles. They wanted to work as professional musicians. They decided to change their last name to Vegas. Pat started his career as a member of the Shindig house band. Later, he and Lolly performed together as The Vegas Brothers.

Forming the Band Redbone

After playing as The Vegas Brothers, Pat and Lolly formed a new band. This band was called Redbone. In 1974, Redbone released their famous song, "Come and Get Your Love". This song became a huge hit.

Pat Vegas began releasing his own music early in his career. In 1961, he released a song called "I Wanna Be A Movie Star." The next year, he released "That Smile" on the Unity record label.

The Avantis and Early Success

Pat and Lolly also led a band called The Avantis. This group included drummer Mike Kowalski and guitarist Danny Hamilton. The Avantis became a supporting act for the famous band, The Beach Boys. They worked closely with Judd Hamilton, who helped arrange and write their songs.

In 1963, The Avantis had a minor hit song called "Wax 'Em Down". This song reached number 36 on the Canadian music charts.

Redbone's Rise to Fame

In 1969, Pat Vegas formed Redbone with his brother Lolly. They were joined by rhythm guitarist Tony Bellamy and drummer Pete DePoe. Redbone quickly became successful. They released popular songs like "Maggie," "The Witch Queen of New Orleans," and "Come And Get Your Love." These songs helped Redbone become a well-known band.

Later Years and Achievements

Pat Vegas has continued to be recognized for his musical contributions. In 2017, he was featured in a film called Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World. This documentary explored how Native Americans influenced rock and roll music.

In April 2018, Pat Vegas performed at the CBC Indigenous Music Awards. This event took place in Winnipeg, Canada. He also received a special Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honored his important work with the band Redbone. Pat Vegas has four children.
