London Lamar (born December 29, 1990) is an American politician from Memphis, Tennessee. She is a member of the Democratic Party. Currently, she serves in the Tennessee Senate, representing District 33. She has held this position since 2022.

Before becoming a state senator, London Lamar was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. She represented District 91 from 2018 to 2022. During her time in the House, she was the youngest State Representative in Tennessee. In March 2022, she was chosen by the Shelby County Commission to join the Tennessee Senate. She took her oath on March 8, 2022, and then left her House seat.

Education and Early Life

London Lamar grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. She went to Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana. In 2013, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Political Science is the study of how governments work and how people make decisions in society. She also studied Sociology and Intercultural Studies.

Public Service Career

London Lamar is currently a state senator for District 33 in Shelby County. Before this, she served as a state representative for District 91.

She is also the president of the Tennessee Young Democrats. This group helps young people get involved in politics. London Lamar is also a member of important national groups. These include The National Organization of Black Elected Legislative Women (NOBEL Women) and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. These groups support Black women and Black leaders in government.

London Lamar has been recognized for her work. She was named one of Memphis Flyer's "Top 20 under 30" in 2015. She was also in Memphis's "Top 40 under 40" class of 2017. As a lawmaker, she has worked on many bills and resolutions. Her main goals are to improve education, support families, and strengthen communities.
