Long Barn is a small community in Tuolumne County, California. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a special area that the government counts for population, but it's not an official city.
Long Barn is located high up in the mountains. It sits at an elevation of about 5,043 feet (1,537 meters). In 2020, about 162 people lived there.
You can find Long Barn about 4 miles northeast of Mi-Wuk Village. It is just off State Route 108.

History of Long Barn
How Long Barn Started
Long Barn was an important stop during the California Gold Rush in the 1800s. Pioneers were people traveling west to find gold. They used to stop at a place called "The Long Barn."
This was a place where travelers could rest. They could also get fresh supplies and food. An apple orchard was planted nearby to give fresh fruit to these travelers. That apple orchard is still there today! The original "Long Barn" building was taken down in the early 1970s.
The Long Barn Lodge
In the 1920s, the Long Barn Lodge was built. It was a big place for people vacationing in the mountains. It had a restaurant, rooms, a bar, and fun activities.
People thought of it as a fancy resort in the "Sonora Pass Vacationland" area. The lodge grew over time. It added a swimming pool, horseback riding, and ice skating. Guests could also enjoy hiking.
Sadly, the historic Long Barn Lodge burned down in 2002. It was not rebuilt because there was no insurance. However, the Long Barn Lodge is still open today! It offers motel rooms, cabins, ice skating, and a swimming pool. They also host events.

Long Barn covers an area of about 2.9 square miles (7.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.05%, is water.

Long Barn has a type of weather called a Warm-summer Mediterranean climate. This means it has warm, dry summers. The winters are usually mild and wet. This kind of climate is often found near the Mediterranean Sea.
Population and People
Who Lives in Long Barn?
In 2010, the population of Long Barn was 155 people. Most of the people living there were White (90.3%). There were also small numbers of African American, Native American, and people from other backgrounds. About 8.4% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
All 155 people lived in homes. No one lived in group homes or institutions. There were 81 households in total. Many households were made up of married couples. Some had children under 18. Others were single people living alone.
