Long Beach, North Carolina was once a small town on Oak Island. It was officially created in 1955. This coastal area is now a neighborhood within the larger town of Oak Island.
Long Beach is famous for a big storm that hit before it was even a town. In 1954, Hurricane Hazel caused a lot of damage. Out of 357 buildings, only five were left standing. In 1999, Long Beach joined with its neighbor, Yaupon Beach, to form the new town of Oak Island.
